Acropolis & Acropolis Museum Half Day Tour
The Acropolis is the ancient heart of Athens, and one of the most important cultural sites in the world. Photos don’t really do it justice. Standing there, you start to understand what the Greeks were working with two and a half thousand years ago, not just in architecture and art, but in how they thought about philosophy and science. A lot of the ideas that shaped Western culture trace back to this hill.
Two hundred years of excavation and restoration have made it possible to see so much of what’s survived. The Acropolis Museum holds everyday objects alongside major works, giving you a sense of how ancient Athenians actually lived: how they built their homes, their theaters, their hospitals, their temples. Part of the museum sits over an active excavation, and you can look down through the glass floor at the ancient city beneath your feet. On the top floor, the Parthenon Hall holds the original sculptural decorations from the temple of Athena, with the real Acropolis visible right through the windows behind them.
